Brent is an associate lawyer at BR Law who assists clients on an array of Aboriginal law matters, with a focus on Aboriginal rights and title, consultation and accommodation, specific claims, and governance.

While Brent works towards negotiated outcomes for his clients, he also brings 5 years of litigation experience to his practice. During his time as a litigator, Brent acted for clients in Aboriginal title claims, in claims for injunctive relief against the Crown and other First Nations, in membership disputes, and in on-reserve property disputes.

Brent has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Brent’s experience as a litigator allows him to bring a forward-thinking approach to his practice. From building strong consultation records to assessing ways to avoid or mitigate risk, Brent is focused on creating legal and strategic plans that will allow his clients to achieve their goals in the future.

Brent is particularly interested in assisting clients in the protection of their Aboriginal rights and title, and in navigating jurisdictional questions around Indigenous, Provincial, and Federal laws.

Before attending law school, Brent studied literature and cultural anthropology. Brent is grateful to be able to learn about his clients’ rich histories and cultures, and to gain insight into their distinct legal orders.  He is humbled to have the opportunity support Indigenous communities in their continued pursuit of self-determination and rights recognition.

When he is not at the office, Brent can be found gardening, hiking, and camping with his wife, Hilary, and their dog, Willow.
